Inspiron 2K17, a joint initiative of “Namma Kovai” and Kumaraguru College of Technology was hosted today at KCT. Inspiron 2K17 is a guidance session for students aspiring to take up civil services where the top government officers shared their thoughts and interacted with students.

Today's session had the likes of Dr. K. Vijayakarthikeyan Commissioner Coimbatore Municipal Corporation, S.Saravanan Deputy Commissioner of Police(Traffic), Gayathri Krishnan Sub Collector Pollachi.

Dr.Vijayakarthikeyan appreciated the students who turned up for the session as it shows their passion towards the career. "It is always easy to comment on things but making things happen is really a difficult task which you will understand once you hold a government post. According to me, career in public administration field gives you the satisfaction that you are able to do something to the society everyday. This position enables us to give chances to people to achieve success. There is nothing called failure or success its just that someone utilised the chance given to them which the other person did not." said Dr. Vijayakarthikeyan.

He also elaborated about the exams to the students. He said "UPSC exams have three levels which are prelims, main exams and interview. The prelims are totally objective type which you should attempt carefully as there is negative marking. Next comes the main exams where you have to answer elaborately and finally the interview. All the three are based on the subjects which you learnt in your school days. In these three tests similar things are asked but needs to be presented differently. So Preliminary Examinations is like a test match where you need to answer carefully, Main exams like One day match where you have to attend everything, and Interview is like a T-20 Match where your fate is decided in 20 minutes of time. To prepare yourself for this exams get into the habit of reading newspapers regularly, stay updated about the current affairs and make a note of it, go through the NCERT books and keep participating in competitions which will make you confident for taking up competitive exams.

Seconding him was Gayatri Krishnan Sub Collector of Pollachi. She shared her experiences of taking up the UPSC exams and the difficulties she faced while preparing. She said “the power of this position is that every single day you can do something new for someone which is not possible in any other career. It’s just the virtue of this post. No single career has the scope as this civil services. If you are in this post people would like listen to you and get inspired by you. You have to invest two years of your life to reach here and you will see enormous opportunities to grow. UPSC exams is like a gateway and each individual has a different approach and methods to crack it. If you students are working towards it at the age of 18 you are early birds and no one can stop you from cracking these exams.

The exams are not an IQ test, but a test of your discipline. It’s not necessary that someone who was coached from a top IAS Coaching Academy will crack the exam. It’s based on your mindset and attitude. You need to decide confidently that you have to get through, then the effort you put for it will make it possible. Two years of investment and dedication for cracking this exam will be a life time achievement. The effort you put is worth it as you will get giant results in every way once you crack the exams. There is risk of failure but we should not stop trying as risk is a part of life. If you invest time and effort you are bound to see incredible results which will make everyone forget about your failure."

S.Saravanan Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic) said to students that the officers who spoke before him explained with clarity on all methods and concepts to clear this exam. Hence, he would focus on building the self confidence of students, as many students by now will be thinking whether it is possible for them to crack competitive exams.

"All of you competed with millions of sperm to be born. When you won the race with millions, UPSC exam has only lakhs of people competing with you. Never doubt your potential just keep putting your effort. The semester exams and UPSC exams have lot of difference. Semester exams are based on marks and UPSC results are based on rankings with respect to the number of vacancies. While preparing for exams get only selective books which are really useful. Do group studies with peers which will help you analyse your strength and weakness. Discuss with your seniors or people who have cracked the exams the tips for performing better. Start a Whatsapp group where you can discuss about the competitive exams. These small small steps will bring you closer to success. There will be lot of distractions on the way to success but you should not let it affect you. There will be risk of failure but if you did not get through UPSC exams there are lot of other competitive exams which you can clear and achieve success', S. Saravanan Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic) said.

Shankar Vanavarayar, Joint Correspondent of KCT also addressed the gathering. Dr. Suresh Principal of the college was also present along with students from KCT and various other colleges from Coimbatore. The session was very enlightening for the students as hearing it first hand from serving IAS officers gave them a lot of confidence and allowed them to think beyond just Engineering courses and aspire to become officers themselves.
